External sensors often need to be positioned at a distance from the monitoring station base unit — vibration sensors at ground contact points, wind sensors at mast height, temperature sensors in representative ambient locations, and pyranometers with clear sky exposure. The Sensorbee sensor cable range provides M8 extension cables in 1 m, 2 m, and 5 m lengths, plus a Y-splitter for connecting multiple sensors to a single port. All cables use weatherproof 6-pin M8 connectors for tool-free, plug-and-play installation that maintains the signal integrity external sensors require.
A short extension for installations where the external sensor needs only modest additional reach beyond the base station's integrated cable. Useful when the sensor's built-in cable is just short of the optimal mounting position — avoiding awkward cable tension or suboptimal sensor placement.
The most commonly used extension length. The 2-metre cable provides enough reach to position wind sensors at appropriate heights on monitoring masts, place vibration sensors at ground contact points away from the station, or separate temperature sensors from the thermal influence of the base station housing.
The longest cable in the range, designed for installations where significant separation between the sensor and base station is required. Typical applications include mounting wind sensors at full mast height while the base station remains at an accessible working height, or positioning vibration sensors at distant ground measurement points.
The Y-splitter connects two external sensors to a single M8 port on the base station. The female-female-male configuration provides two sensor input connections that combine into one base station connection. This is essential when the monitoring configuration requires more external sensors than the base station has dedicated external ports.
Sensor placement directly affects measurement quality. Cables that are too short force compromises:
The right cable length eliminates these compromises, ensuring each sensor operates in its optimal measurement position regardless of where the base station is mounted.
All cables use 6-pin M8 connectors — the same industrial-standard connector used throughout the Sensorbee external sensor range. The M8 interface provides:
Cables can be daisy-chained for extended reach — for example, an SB9114 (2 m) plus an SB9116 (5 m) provides 7 metres of total extension. However, verify that the total cable length remains within the recommended range for the specific sensor to ensure signal quality.
The sensor cables work with all Sensorbee external sensors using M8 connectors:
Sensor cable installation is plug-and-play:
Route cables along mast structures, mounting poles, or wall surfaces using appropriate cable ties or clips. Avoid sharp bends that could damage the cable, and provide strain relief at connection points to prevent connector damage from wind or cable weight.
For the Y-splitter (SB9131), connect each sensor to one of the two female connectors, then connect the male connector to the base station port.
Cables can be daisy-chained using multiple extenders. For example, two SB9116 cables provide 10 metres of extension. However, long cable runs may affect signal quality for some sensor types. Consult the specific sensor documentation for maximum recommended cable length.
Yes — the plug-and-play M8 connectors allow cables to be disconnected, relocated, and reconnected without any degradation. The cables are designed for repeated connection cycles across multiple deployments.
The Y-splitter is needed when your sensor configuration requires more external sensor connections than the base station provides. For standard configurations with one or two external sensors, direct connection without a splitter is typical.
Yes — all sensor cables are constructed for permanent outdoor installation, rated for the same environmental conditions as the sensors they connect. The M8 connectors provide weatherproof seals at both ends.
